Currently there
is surgical technology that allows mouth movements immediately after orthognathic
surgery. Titanium plates and screws or even resorbable plating systems (Fig.
1) provide postoperative osseous stability. Despite that, some care with
nutrition is necessary in order to control the masticatory forces. Although
it is possible to open the mouth (Fig. 2), osseous consolidation will occur
only within 2 months after the surgery.
